Being constantly reminded in the class I'm TAing for this semester of my 7th grade history teacher who decided to spend the year teaching us about the history of Haiti, South Africa, China, and Chile - by which I mean basically the contents of The Black Jacobins, anti-Apartheid activists (I remember that we watched the biopic of Stephen Biko), the Cultural Revolution, and the coup against Salvador Allende and the repression under Pinochet's government - at a school which was about 70% Black, less than 10% white, and solidly 80-90% immigrant kids. Also she was a lesbian and I know this because she mentioned her wife once or twice. Literally who was doing it like her

#she's the person that republicans are scared of and also she was such a good teacher #i remember so much from that class even though at this point it was well over 10 years ago #literally immunization against 'the us education system doesn't teach you anything' WELL IT COULD #the further i actually get into academia the more i'm amazed at how much of that she managed to bring to 13-year-olds #also this was the school that was 67% haitian so spending half a year talking about haitian history was very cool of her #perce rambles #also real boston moment but her being a lesbian never really even registered as notable #only by being on tumblr have i realized that growing up with 15 million married lesbians around you was not a common experience #the more salient thing i remember is that she had a dog named palomita #anyways shout out to ms [redacted] you were a real one

it hurts me deeply to my core to not do the very best I can and get really good results. and it's likely going to disappoint people I love. but like. I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet, accept that I'm not gonna pass some classes, and just focus on the other shit. goodbye literature class.

#romanian lit class every week expecting you to read 1 novel or 2/3 poetry books a week #english lit class expecting you to read 1 novel every other week #english lit class number 2 expecting you to read a novel every other week (yes this is a different one)#essay class expecting you to read 2 essays every other week #short story class expecting you to read a short story every week #comparative lit class expecting you to read 1 or 2 books every other week #any two of these in any combination could be fine I guess but still a bit much considering THESIS!!!!#which is why I've only been managing to perform well in romanian lit class and short story class and until now essay class (but I can't #do it anymore man I just can't.) I just need someone to validate how shit my curriculum is. I honestly believe all hiring "best practices" are bullshit.

#people can play the system #someone can have a good resume and good interview and be shit because they are just faking it #likewise someone can have a resume not fit for the job at all and would be perfect for it #but gets passed over for someone with mire expierence #or someone who has had an education even if they didn't actually fucking learn anything #and it really feels like its just an excuse to look down on others #there are whole fields that the majority of hiring managers don't think have any value #and they are mostly the jobs that are for the “lower class”#like retail food service janitorial work ect #and i'm not even getting into how most job listings are fake!!!

everybody needs to read Wild Swans immediately. aside from being a heartbreaking story of three generations of women, it shows how revolution can go even when idealistic, principled people work at the heart of it

#not gonna tag as communism but most of the people claiming to be communists have never read anything about communist countries and it shows #also one of my good friends is Ukrainian #so if anybody was going to be thoroughly unconvinced by communism it is me #I would consider myself a socialist overall to be clear it's not the concept of everyone putting together and sharing that I take issue with #I just think other mechanisms would be more effective and manageable #plus all the evidence we have of communism in action Does Not Go Well #anyway the main takeaway should be #wtf is your plan for AFTER the revolution #who's gonna run shit #what will you do with the classes of people you demonise #any system turning people against another is so dangerous and wild swans encapsulates this #whilst being beautifully written with a deep love of China and her people

I admit I still kind of am in survival mode from yesterday. Like I was the "this is fine" dog with a metaphorical house on fire around me. And By God I sure fuckin managed it. In that last hour, as time crept up and I started panicking a bit, I just kept muttering to myself about how "it's fine, I'll be fine. I'm so Fucking good at finishing things." And ykno what? I Did It!!!

But now I still feel that feeling of impending doom. Like there is something I need to do Right Now and if I don't I am going to be Severely Fucked. Trying to get myself to relax some bc while there *is* stuff I need to do today, it's nowhere near as pressing or as monumental a task as yesterday's thing. And no one can go at full throttle all of the time!!!! Gotta chill out for a bit. Watch some anime. Build some Legos. You know.
